Job Duties
  • Installation of high voltage underground cable, cable joints, terminations, and accessories up to 400,000 volts;
  • Cable manufacturers product installation of prysmian click-fit joints and terminations, raychem joints and terminations, BICC LPOF joints and terminations, Elasta-mold joints and terminations, Brugg joints and terminations, Nexans joins and terminations, J-Power joints and terminations, and Pfisterer joints and terminations;
  • Lead wiping, aluminum wiping, cable insulation removal, cable sheath removal, cable insulation stepping, paper chamfering, hand-applied oil paper taping, hand-applied paper roll installation, and cable semi-conductor removal of low-pressure oil-filled cables, high-pressure pipe type cables, and X.L.P.E cables;
  • Installation of cable accessories: straight-through joints, oil stop-joints, outdoor terminations, oil immersed cubicle terminations, and S.F.6. terminations;
  • Installing cables into concrete duct banks;
  • Organizing cable installation into direct buried trenching;
  • Jointing high-voltage, XLPE, and oil-filled cables.
  • Supervising multiple jointing teams and serving as a joint crew leader.
Terms of Employment Permanent, full-time
Wage $100,000 - $120,000 CDN
Benefits Eligible for full benefits under I.B.E.W Local Union 353 two months after working 450 hours. Benefits include dental, medical (including drugs), disability, therapy (ie. physiotherapy, chiropractor, massage therapy) and optical.
Location of Work Gormley, Ontario (main location of work), work at other locations in Alberta and British Columbia, depending on the client needs

Education Apprenticeship at Cable Jointing Training School;  Cable Installation Training Courses; Plug-In Termination Training Courses, and High Voltage Cable Jointer Certification
Work Experience Required for the Position
  • Specialized skills and experiences working with High Voltage Cables and Accessories  and preparing and installing  high-voltage equipment
  • Must have served an industry recognized full term apprenticeship (preferably with a cable manufacturer).
  • Must have at least 10 years’ experience working in the field.
  • Experience with multiple manufacturers’ accessories a benefit.
  • Experience with LPOF, HPFF and XLPE cables up to 400KV
  • Experience with wiping, cable insulation, sheath, and semi-conductor removal, stepping,  paper chamfering, hand-applied paper taping and roll installation,
  • Experience with straight-through joints, oil stop-joints, outdoor terminations, oil immersed cubicle terminations, and S.F.6. terminations;
  • Experience working on underground cable installations installing cables into concrete duct banks.
  • Experience setting up and organizing cable installations into direct buried trenching;
  • Experience working with various cable manufacturers specialized tooling;
  • Certification from cable manufacturers showing training on specific products;
  • Must be able to work as a jointing crew leader organizing and being responsible for more than one jointing team.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Electrical Systems Manager within our Permian Basin business unit based in Midland, TX.

Electrical Systems Manager:

This key management position located in Midland, Texas will manage Client's Permian Basin electrical transmission, distribution and end use systems including strategy and business plans; direct engineering, design, and economic analysis on projects, transmission services and end use; direct development and construction of new projects; and, direct maintenance, repair and daily operations of the electrical distribution system from purchased power locations through end use points. This system includes; 17,000+ miles of electric lines over 19 counties in three states (Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado) with a coverage area of 32,000 square miles; 51 substations and 302 secondary substations; has a daily load of 800 MW and is served by five separate utilities.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Manage electrical transmission/distribution systems to maintain a high degree of system operational reliability.
  • Maintain leadership role and develop close working relationship with Facilities and Construction, Surface Operations and Maintenance, Plants and Automation to increase reliability while improving field and plant performance.
  • Manage the power system network to meet or exceed the business goals for operational excellence and improved cost control, quality, reliability and productivity.
  • Develop initiatives and projects to maintain and improve the electrical infrastructure in areas of safety, environmental, quality, automation, cost reduction, reliability, and productivity
  • Provide focus and build commitment of the staff to achieve the goals and objectives of the electrical network and business unit
  • Manage and measure the electrical infrastructure performance through the use of appropriate metrics and key performance indicators
  • Investigate electrical failures to determine cause and engineer an improvement to prevent recurrence
  • Provide technical comments to electrical projects, including specifications, one-lines, schematic and wiring diagrams
  • Perform electrical field surveillance and power quality analysis of electrical equipment in order to facilitate reliable electrical equipment operations for motors, transformers, switchgear, substations, and transmission/distribution lines
  • Ensure the design/configuration of the transmission and distribution systems is understood and documented and that the protection systems affecting the reliability of the electrical system are maintained, tested and documented
  • Provide field maintenance and operations support for electrical equipment; investigate problems or failures and recommend engineered solutions
  • Ensure that the power system is operated and maintained with full compliance to all related HES policies and procedures
  • Identification and implementation of tactical training programs of Electrical Technicians.
