Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Electrical Systems Manager within our Permian Basin business unit based in Midland, TX.

Electrical Systems Manager:

This key management position located in Midland, Texas will manage Client's Permian Basin electrical transmission, distribution and end use systems including strategy and business plans; direct engineering, design, and economic analysis on projects, transmission services and end use; direct development and construction of new projects; and, direct maintenance, repair and daily operations of the electrical distribution system from purchased power locations through end use points. This system includes; 17,000+ miles of electric lines over 19 counties in three states (Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado) with a coverage area of 32,000 square miles; 51 substations and 302 secondary substations; has a daily load of 800 MW and is served by five separate utilities.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Manage electrical transmission/distribution systems to maintain a high degree of system operational reliability.
  • Maintain leadership role and develop close working relationship with Facilities and Construction, Surface Operations and Maintenance, Plants and Automation to increase reliability while improving field and plant performance.
  • Manage the power system network to meet or exceed the business goals for operational excellence and improved cost control, quality, reliability and productivity.
  • Develop initiatives and projects to maintain and improve the electrical infrastructure in areas of safety, environmental, quality, automation, cost reduction, reliability, and productivity
  • Provide focus and build commitment of the staff to achieve the goals and objectives of the electrical network and business unit
  • Manage and measure the electrical infrastructure performance through the use of appropriate metrics and key performance indicators
  • Investigate electrical failures to determine cause and engineer an improvement to prevent recurrence
  • Provide technical comments to electrical projects, including specifications, one-lines, schematic and wiring diagrams
  • Perform electrical field surveillance and power quality analysis of electrical equipment in order to facilitate reliable electrical equipment operations for motors, transformers, switchgear, substations, and transmission/distribution lines
  • Ensure the design/configuration of the transmission and distribution systems is understood and documented and that the protection systems affecting the reliability of the electrical system are maintained, tested and documented
  • Provide field maintenance and operations support for electrical equipment; investigate problems or failures and recommend engineered solutions
  • Ensure that the power system is operated and maintained with full compliance to all related HES policies and procedures
  • Identification and implementation of tactical training programs of Electrical Technicians.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited curriculum, or equivalent
  • A Minimum of 15 years of experience in electrical distribution field including a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a related electrical field
  • Ability to model power systems (load flow, short circuit, motor starting, protective device coordination, arc-flash hazard analysis, etc. ) with computer software. Experienced with protective relays, circuit reclosers, circuit breakers, power transformers, synchronous machines, medium voltage switchgear and MCC, large medium voltage motors, high voltage substations, transmission and distribution lines.
  • Experienced with electrical reliability and efficiency, power quality, power management systems.
  • Strong understanding of power system concepts, including leading and lagging power factor, protection systems (protective relays, communications systems, voltage and current sensing devices, station VDC supply, control circuitry), real and reactive power flows, X/R ratio, network single line and impedance diagram
  • Good working knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), Electrical Safety in the Workplace (NFPA-70E), and OSHA safety standards.
  • Broad based knowledge and experience at developing and implementing strategic plans for preventive maintenance, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), performance based Protection System Monitoring Program (PSMP) practices, personnel/equipment safety, electrical testing and test methods for electrical substations, switchgear, and transmission/distribution lines.
  • Deal effectively with the unknown and unexpected and possess the ability to handle non-routine and emergency activities, such as equipment failures, plant shutdowns, start-up, commissioning, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical safety systems and regulations
